Paulo F. dos Santos is Project Executive, Technology Consultant, Systems Analyst, Network Specialist. He holds MBA in Information Security and is a Legal Assistant. Dos Santos has been invited to several conferences to discuss LGPD: new challenges and new opportunities. Paulo dos Santos, a specialist in information security, discussed the importance and application of the General Data Protection Law (LGPD) in Brazil. The LGPD, which has been in effect for a few years, aims to protect personal and sensitive data of both individuals and legal entities, and its implementation is crucial for information security. Paulo explained that the law is directly linked to technology, requiring companies to implement robust security policies, such as the use of firewalls and antivirus software, to ensure data protection. He emphasized the need for greater awareness of the LGPD, especially in educational institutions, where knowledge about the law is still limited. Moreover, Paulo mentioned that although there are cases in court using the LGPD as a legal basis, the law is not yet widely known and applied. He believes that the best way to expand knowledge and application of the LGPD is through training and awareness programs integrated into technological systems in corporations and educational institutions. Comparing to other countries like the United States, Paulo noted that while the Brazilian LGPD is developing, there is still a long way to go to achieve full and effective implementation. Continuous awareness and education are essential for the LGPD to provide the security and data protection it aims to offer.
